Keywords: the key element of a business-generating website
A keyword is a word or phrase that describes what you do and indicates the main purpose of your website.
A keyword is most often a phrase, not a single word.
Writing your H1 tag to include the primary keyword for what you do is one of the Most Important Business-Generating steps you can take to create a website that works for you.
How are keywords used?
People type their question or problem into a search engine query box. What they type in, or parts of it, is called “keywords” in the SEO world.
Keyword: “personal trainer for remote workouts”
Keyword: “health coach for menopausal women”
These are problems for which people (i.e., your ideal clients) need solutions.
Search engines process the contents of the query box and then serve up the website pages they determine are the ones that will best answer this problem for that particular person.
Your goal is to have your website served up by search engines for the problems you solve, for your ideal client.
This all comes down to keywords.
What do you do, and for whom?
The first step in determining the most business-generating keyword to include in your H1 tag on each page is to figure out the main purpose and ideal client for your business.
Before you fall down the rabbit hole of branding, messaging, and marketing strategy, just ask yourself:
What do you do?
For whom do you want to do it?
Who do you do it for best?
Answer in as few words as possible, as if you are explaining it to a 10 year old.
Think about the problems your current clients asked you to solve. Not sure? Ask them!
Your answers to these questions are the beginnings of your keyword list. Jot down your answers and save them as the beginning of your keyword strategy.
